THE TRADITION BEHIND EVERY PLATE

More Than Food — A Taste of Home
Some foods are simply delicious. Others carry memories.
Colombian food belongs to the second category.
For many Colombian families, recipes are passed from one generation to another—not through measurements written on a piece of paper, but through watching, tasting, sharing, and learning in the kitchen. A grandmother teaches a daughter. A mother teaches her children. A family gathers around the table, and suddenly a simple meal becomes part of a lifelong memory.
That’s the beauty of Colombian cooking.
The ingredients may be humble, but the flavors are anything but ordinary. Corn, rice, beans, plantains, potatoes, cassava, meats, eggs, cheese, and fresh vegetables come together in countless combinations. Each dish tells a different story.
Take the arepa, for example. Simple at first glance, but deeply connected to Colombian identity. It can be served alongside breakfast, enjoyed with cheese, filled with different ingredients, or simply eaten warm with butter. Then there are empanadas, crispy on the outside and packed with flavorful fillings, perfect for sharing—or keeping all to yourself.
And then there are the dishes that turn a meal into an occasion. A generous Colombian plate filled with rice, beans, meat, plantains, egg, arepa, and other traditional favorites isn’t just food. It’s an invitation to sit down and stay awhile.
At City Diner, tradition is an important part of what inspires our kitchen. We believe Colombian food should feel comforting and familiar while still being exciting enough to make you want to come back for another bite.
Because the best traditions aren’t meant to stay in the past.
They’re meant to be shared, celebrated, and enjoyed around a table with the people you love.
